Tournament Stats and Standings

Week of December 7th
From Coach Frank:The schedule is out for our tournament this coming weekend (click here). We play twice on Friday and once on Saturday. There are 6 teams in the tournament and 4 of the 6 make it into the playoff round which is on Sunday.
I ask each family to please reply to me no later than end of day Wednesday letting me know if your son will make it to all the games or will miss any. For example, please let me know if you will not be able to pull your son from school for any of the games on Friday. Thanks. I have copied the schedule below as well as directions to our Saturday game. We are asked to arrive 45 minutes before game time as they are known to start the games 15 minutes early (one of my Peewee games this past weekend at the Peewee BSP tournament started a full 15 mins before the scheduled time and another about 8 minutes before the scheduled time).

Directions to Cavanagh Sensplex for Saturday's game: Cavanagh Sensplex (in KINBURN) (brand new, state of the art single pad facility). This facility is located at 5670 Carp Rd - approximately 7 minutes past the Village of Carp when traveling from central Ottawa. If you have a game scheduled at the "Cavanagh Sensplex", please allow approximately 25 minutes in travel time from the Bell Sensplex during good driving conditions. The recommended route from Ottawa or areas east of the city (including coming in from southern Ontario via Hwy 416) is to take Hwy 417 to Carp Rd and head North.
From Nathalie:
Please note that we would like to take this opportunity to get the team together for a holiday party. We have booked one hour of game time at iPlay (SensPlex location) for Friday Dec 11 at 4:45 p.m. (after our 3:30 game). We have tentatively booked Stanley's (at the Sensplex) for 5:45 - confirmation to follow shortly (if not Stanley's, then I will find a restaurant nearby). Gaming, pizza and pop will be provided for the players via the team budget. Parents and siblings are welcome, and are responsible for their own food and beverages. I must confirm the total number of attendees for the reservation by Thursday December 10. Can you please advise me, via return email - by no later than Wednesday -(a) whether your child will attend and (b) how many parents and siblings will attend as well.
To make things fun, we will have a Wacky Gift Exchange. Here's how it works. Each player should bring a wrapped gift (value of no more than $10). Players should be encouraged to wrap their gifts in an imaginative way, a way that doesn't give away what is inside. For example, a gift card could be wrapped in an old DVD or CD case ... a DVD could be wrapped in a shoe box ... a $10 bill can be wrapped ina toilet paper tube .. etc ... Gifts can be a bit weird or humourous but they should be something that your child wouldn't mind receiving themselves. Here's how the Wacky Gift Exchange works:
1-wrapped gifts are set out on a table
2-numbers are put in a hat
3-each player pulls a number from the hat; that is the order in which the players choose a gift
4-the first player gets to choose a gift from the pile, and opens it
5-the second player has the choice of taking a gift from the pile, or "stealing" the gift opened by player number 1
6-and so on
7-if a player's gift is stolen, then they get to steal a gift or pick one from the pile
8-play continues until all the gifts are open
9-at the end, player number 1 gets to steal any of the opened gifts or keep his own gift
10-a gift can be stolen a maximum of 4 times - after 4 times, it is "frozen" (this ensures the game doesn't continue til the wee hours of the morning!)
11-there is nothing to prevent players from making trades after the game is over
Please email me by WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 9 to let me know how many people will accompany your child to the party. Thanks!

Let's create a fun, exciting, positive atmosphere for our Spitfire team ... I challenge everyone to bring some sort of noisemaker so that the boys can hear us cheer loud and clear! I'm going to use my cowbell (a birthday present from Teddy to his hockey mom!) for the first time, and will also bring along a couple of clappers. If you don't have any noisemakers, you can make a simple one using an empty water or pop bottle and some dry beans or rice. Fill about 1/3 of the way, and shake!

Week of September 28
To summarize last night's parents' meeting - we have agreed on:
- a $150 contribution per player
- 2 to 3 tournaments (depending on availability of sponsorship dollars)
- seeking entry to the Brockville tournament as a first choice for out of town (Nov 20-22)
- seeking entry to the February 12-14 Sensplex tournament
- participating in the Future Sens program, should a spot be available
- converting some practice times to exhibition games
- trading practice ice with other teams to result in somewhat less practice time, but full ice
Parents are encouraged to seek sponsors for the team; more info on this to come. Manoj will be putting together a team budget for consideration shortly.
We have received the season game schedule, which has been posted here. Please note that the paper copy is subject to change, your best bet is to consult this site in order to keep on top of any changes (which will also be sent to you via email).
And finally, a reminder re this weekend's hockey schedule:

Parents' Meeting - Wed. Sept 30, 6:00 p.m., KRC
C2 Parents:
It was good to meet the boys at our first practice. All but 2 were able to come out and hopefully I can meet everyone at our next practice on Sunday. We will pick a team name on Sunday. I told the boys that I'll ask each for a suggested team name as they arrive on Sunday and after the practice we'll vote to choose the most liked name.
I have booked the KRC boardroom on Wed Sept 30th at 6pm to hold a 30 minute parents meeting. We have an exhibition game at 6:30 and I'd like to meet after you drop off your son to the dressing room. Please try to be prompt and head up quickly to the boardroom. I'll give folks 5 or 10 minutes to drop off their son but would like to start no later than 6:10 so we can cover the agenda and then head back out to catch most of the game. The KRC boardroom is on the main level of the KRC in behind the KMHA office (back of the main level near the washrooms).
We'll cover the following at our meeting:
-Introduce ourselves.
-Introduce the volunteers. Many thanks to those who have volunteered already!!
-Co-Coach: Rocco Marcantonio
-Trainer: Rocco, Frank Van Schie, Kerry Johnson
-On Ice: Eric Comeau, Frank Van Schie, Kerry Johnson
-Manager Duties (split-up):
-Treasurer: Manoj Mittal
-Tournament prime: need prime
-Team Roster & scoresheets: need prime
-Social Coordinator: Nathalie Kachulis
-TimeKeepers: Eric Comeau, Manoj Mittal
-Webmaster: Nathalie Kachulis
-Identify what roles we still need filled.
-Tournament prime: someone to locate and register us for our tournaments
-Team Roster & scoresheets: someone to complete the official team roster, get signed off by KMHA, send in as needed for tournaments. Create roster labels and fill out the gamesheets for each game. Enter scores on website as required.
-Tournaments, how many (2 or 3 ideally)?, any out of town? Let's choose at the meeting.
-Team budget
-Costs: what do we want to do?
-Income: Can anyone get sponsors? how much do we each need to chip in to cover costs? do we do any fundraising (I prefer no)?
